What makes you think you have what it takes to drive a truck?

Are you a self starter?

In order to make in the the world of trucking you need to be able to get yourself going.  You can’t depend on someone else to motivate you or get you ready to do the job.  There is no show up and get paid part to trucking.  You are creating the value that cannot be replaced by driving the truck and delivering the materials or goods on time.

 

Are you dependable?

People who order truckloads of goods are serious about their business.  They have customers and inventory demands that they must meet in order to stay in business.  As a truck driver you can be a savior for a company or a thorn in their side.  Showing up on time and building  a reputation for reliability is the best favor you can do for yourself.

 

Do you understand respect?

Respect is universal.  Everyone deserves it and should give it also.  People should first respect themselves then others.  Don’t get this mixed up.  Take care of yourself and project professionalism with trucking.  There isn’t a dress code but you want people to recognize you as a trucker not some idiot with a over sized white t-shirt or some kinda trendy stupid looking outfit.  You want to look like a truck driver when you are driving, you may not understand this at this point in life but later on you will.

 

Are you responsible?

Do you have a reputation for screwing things up?  Are you basically an idiot?  If so please stay away from a truck for you own safety and everyone else’s.  However, if you are someone that is responsible and wants a challenge every day in life then you are born to drive a truck.  Also trucking is still the most regulated industry so you have to worry about the DOT who has requirements that you have to be prepared for no big deal for people who are responsible.

Just a few things to consider before you think about driving a truck.  Do you think you have what it takes?
