Trucking is for loners? I wouldn’t say I agree with that statement completely. People who are loners would make excellent truck drivers because you can spend a lot of time alone if you want. My uncle is the most jovial personality you’ll meet but he says he really gets to think deeply when he is out on the open road. He says its like a cleansing process or something. He said it allows him time to connect with himself on another level. It is understandable I have been a regional trucker in my experience I didn’t go across the country like he did but in the time I was out over the road in my region I did appreciate the time to focus my thoughts on the things that are the most important in my life. You have time to reflect on what matters most and actually plan out in your mind what you are going to do.
People that are independent are different from everyone else for one main reason. They don’t accept the idea that they are in need of anyone for anything. They have it carved into their DNA that they can overcome regardless of the odds or the outcomes of other people who may have tried. Independent people know that failure is not an options it is the result of identifying a way that won’t work. An independent person knows that success isn’t a sprint its a marathon. Its not a climb the mountain fast contest its a hold on to a cliff the longest contest. If you are independent you will thrive in trucking as you will find that people respect you for what you do and they don’t bother you.
Independent people look a little bit different. Yeah I would agree with that. People who are independent tend to not care what others think about the length of their beards or dreadlocks. They tend to have an attitude that is pretty much I am who I am love me, or leave me alone. Each one has their own style. This is not something that is found too often in the job market so this is why independent people continue to flock into trucking. You can dress how you want listen to the music you want and just seriously be yourself all day everyday. It is a good feeling if you have ever had a job where you had to leave your pride at the door.
Isolation doesn’t mean independence. I’m not talking about people who are basically anti social I’m talking about the types of individuals who are very personal and caring people they just aren’t followers. They don’t go with the latest trend. They might have their favorite music that they like to listen too or their favorite movies. They aren’t all about learning the new social media platform before it comes out. You’ll never hear them say that’s so 35 seconds ago. They don’t have anything to prove other than that they can get the job done better than anyone else. They take pride in themselves, their family and their country. They are independent truck drivers. Are you independent?
